Set & Centered
Set & Centered is where "it’ll take five minutes" goes to die. Each week we hit record and talk shop about life on the dog rescue ranch—what’s working, what’s broken, and what went sideways in spectacular fashion.
Set & Centered
Going Great So Far...
The mics were hot, the plan was rigid, and within minutes we knew it wasn’t working. What followed was the real beginning: two friends on a dusty ranch admitting the flop, then rebuilding a show in real time—tools out, humor intact, and a to‑do list that doubles as plot.

Alright everybody, welcome to the first episode of Set and Centered. I'm RJ.
SPEAKER_03:I'm Mark.
SPEAKER_05:That's how you're gonna say it? Okay.
SPEAKER_03:I don't know. It'll probably change every time.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, I don't know. Um anyway, so how you doing? Are you like are you excited? I'm I I feel like this is pretty exciting.
SPEAKER_03:This is very exciting. It's so cool.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah. Um kind of I was gonna say a long time coming, but we've only been talking about it, kind of working through it for a couple months. Um, I think it'll be fun though.
SPEAKER_03:I yeah, I agree 100%. It'll it's it's gonna be a blast.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah. I think so. Well, you know, at least we'll think so. Um now we'll watch the follower count go from zero to two and then should probably stay there, but that's fine.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah, that's all right.
SPEAKER_05:So uh what's been going on around here this week? Like oh, go ahead. Were you gonna say something? I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_03:No, I was trying to try to think and it's not working.
SPEAKER_05:Well, this is uh this is really very uh scintillating radio we're doing here, isn't it? There you are with another big word, scentillate. Okay, we're not done. You won't even be able to spell that, so don't even try to look it up, okay? Speak into my phone. Speak into me. You can't do that when you're sensuous. Sensuous. Oh, that was bordering on a whole other fucking word, wasn't it? No, uh-uh. Oh no.
SPEAKER_03:That's the one I was looking for.
SPEAKER_05:Oh, I gotcha.
SPEAKER_03:So uh you guys mowed your grass. Yeah, you brought over the tractor, did a couple rounds, and taught me how to run a tractor, and uh yeah, so we mowed the two acres with uh we my wife sat there and watched me while I mowed two acres of grass. Judging. Uh her or me. I'm just gonna leave it there. So yeah, I got that done and uh and then brought the tractor back over and actually walked back to the place. I mean, good thing it's not that far, but yeah, did that and then uh I got in bed bolts for my uh truck bed because going down this road it it rattles a little bit. Ryan complains.
SPEAKER_05:No, the whole county complains.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, that's true. Everybody on our our red dirt road complains. So I got those put in today. I actually got them yesterday, put them in today. Now we're gonna write that down as a win for me.
SPEAKER_05:Okay, and again, well, uh like it's like I told you earlier. I'll get you a pen and a piece of paper for next time so you can write it down. There we go. Yeah, you don't have to just keep throwing it at my face.
SPEAKER_03:I'm sorry, I can't throw it at your face. You've got stuff in the way.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, I know. That's the reason there's a reason why this this room is set up the way it is right now. Um so how many when did you bring the tractor back?
SPEAKER_03:Uh yesterday, let's see now. Yeah, yesterday uh morning, probably around 11 o'clock, 12 o'clock.
SPEAKER_05:Oh, okay. Yeah, yeah. I was watching a movie, and I remember now when you brought it back because I was watching a movie and it had some supernatural elements to it, and so like at certain points there was some woo-woo woo-woo sounds in the background. And there were like a few times where I'm like, is that the movie?
SPEAKER_04:Or is that outside? Is that the movie or is that outside?
SPEAKER_05:So it was, I think part one of those ones is uh where I thought the guy was an alien is probably just you rolling up at the tractor.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, and Christine's like, uh oh, I think I think Hartley's barking, and I'm like, ah, he'll sleep through it. So but yeah, no, we uh went to town and got a got diesel and filled her back up, and that's a fun thing with the new government frickin' gas cans trying to get fuel into something. Uh-oh. Yeah. So, but we got that done, and then uh yeah, I rode it all the way over here. Christina walked, and then we walked on the way back home. Yeah, that's the end of that story. Yeah, it was not good. Just not a very good story. It's not because what's what's uh I mean, yeah, it's exciting to run the tractor and stuff, but you know, having to bring it back to its house, that kind of sucks.
SPEAKER_05:Well, I'm gonna be honest, I don't think anybody listening to this, well, if they were listening, they're not anymore. But I don't think anybody listening to this is like, wow, this is it was that that mowing the grass story was really interesting up until yeah, up until the end.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, because considering since the forest fire we haven't mowed it.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah. How many times when you were operating it did you think, ooh shit, I probably just broke it?
SPEAKER_03:Um twice. Yeah. Yeah, going over the mound at the south end. Oh yeah. Yeah. I yeah, there's the spot that didn't get done because I'm like, nope, I'm not doing that again.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah. It's like uh it's sort of weebly wobbly because like the tractor itself is really heavy, but when you put that thing on the back, then it's like there's not a whole lot of weight on the front and it can get a little bouncy.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, yeah, and you always feel like you're falling forward anyway in a tractor.
SPEAKER_05:Well, in that one, yeah. I don't know if that's just my tractor or what, but I feel like I'm gonna fall out the damn thing.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, I hear you there.
SPEAKER_05:Um, I'm gonna be honest with you, I think this first episode is really boring so far.
SPEAKER_03:I do too. I I'm gonna have to figure out something to make it a little bit more um I know. Like I can't think of a lot of things. Are we just off right now? Or yeah, I mean, uh well, what have you got going this week? What did you do this week?
SPEAKER_05:Well, I watched that movie and we talked about that. Oh yeah, yeah. Okay. Uh yeah, not a whole lot really. Um the whole premise of this podcast is we have a lot of stories. We do. This is really embarrassing.
SPEAKER_03:We do. It's the thing that we're trying to figure out is uh what story do you start with.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, um, or maybe there's no good stories right now. Or maybe maybe we're realizing right now that we are not funny or entertaining at all.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, we are. We just gotta get in our groove. I mean it it just takes a little bit because you kind of sit there going, okay, now we're now we're actually doing a podcast.
SPEAKER_05:Do you think we should like maybe plan like drop down a few things before we start doing one of these or something?
SPEAKER_03:Nah, I like flying by wire. Yeah, it's going great so far. Yeah, it's wonderful. Bye to the two people that signed up for it.
SPEAKER_05:It's like uh if let's say like you know, it'd be I I don't even know what the analogy was. I can't even do a f a joke right now. Um gosh, we gotta get uh we gotta get out of this.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, isn't there a fucking escape hatch around here? There should be. I mean, it's probably bolted down knowing our luck.
SPEAKER_05:Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_05:Well, since this is terrible and probably not gonna end up being our first episode, maybe we should just talk about how to make an episode that doesn't suck.
SPEAKER_03:Uh yeah, that uh well that you know you could you could actually post it and people can listen to us and and hear how it actually goes from your first one, and then you sit here and talk about what you're gonna do to try and liven it up a little bit.
SPEAKER_05:Okay. Well, maybe Yeah. So maybe that's maybe that's what our first episode should be. Yeah. Is what the heck are we gonna do?
SPEAKER_03:Well, you you've kind of got the you know, when you were over the other day and we were talking about it with Christina, the kind of the format and how we're gonna do things and what we're gonna call certain pieces or parts of the the podcast, the segments. The segment's kind of like a centipede, it's in segments.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah. Um, and maybe that's maybe that's where we went wrong is we had sort of put we'd blocked this. Excuse me.
SPEAKER_04:Oh, I have one.
unknown:Oh god.
SPEAKER_05:Oh god. Mute before you burned. Uh because we had basically put this 20-minute chunk of like this is the main body of the podcast, like right up front, right? So Yeah. It's like we just sort of threw ourselves out of the truck with our with our asses hanging out, like uh well yeah.
SPEAKER_03:We went, you know, we did the the first little what 15-20 minute part, and then went out into the porch and porch talked and says, Hey, you wanna you wanna try it for a full one? Yeah, let's go for a full one. We're sitting here going, crap, I could only have a quarter of a one.
SPEAKER_05:You've already ruined it because you know people aren't supposed to know about the other thing. It was a test one.
SPEAKER_03:It was a test one, yeah. I thought that's what it was a test one.
SPEAKER_05:Maybe you could liven this up. What's that? I'm gonna just get online and see if I can find a better friend.
SPEAKER_03:Oh yeah, yeah. Can he get in the country legally?
SPEAKER_05:Oh gosh, I told you about that guy, right? In the haunt in the Honduras. Yeah, he's got he's like, I got a coyote lined up. Oh I'm like, oh geez.
SPEAKER_03:So is that a Ford or a dog or it's a coyote?
SPEAKER_05:I don't get that as a show.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, because uh Ford makes the coyote more motor.
SPEAKER_05:Oh, yeah, I didn't know that. See, yeah, so anyway, like he wants me to get in touch with his coyote to get my details. Funding. Oh my god, okay. I'm gonna stop talking to people on Facebook. Well, actually I have because I don't have messenger anymore because I can't.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05:Phone's all jacked up. No, what I was gonna say though is maybe So the lineup, right? So we're gonna like keep a backlog, right? And kind of So when I say right, like some acknowledgement would be.
SPEAKER_03:Oh yeah. Right.
SPEAKER_05:Like the lineup though, right? Yes. Maybe maybe we try putting that like like right out the gate. Um let's see, podcast intro, blah blah blah. Alright, we'll do like her hey, how's it going? Blah blah blah. And then it's like, let's let's get to the lineup. I don't know if we can try it. So let's talk about the lineup. The lineup is for those of you for whom this is your first episode, which is everybody, uh uh one of the things uh um there's a lot of stuff that always needs to be done. It's a huge backlog of projects. So that's the lineup. We can't call it backlog because Mark chuckles every time I say log. So it's it's called the lineup. And part of what we're gonna do here is we're gonna talk about the things that um we need to get done and hopefully hold ourselves accountable in front of our massive audience and getting this stuff done.
SPEAKER_03:So we got some time to go before we actually gotta get stuff done.
SPEAKER_05:Oh yeah. Okay, good, we're good. Totally. Uh so since it's the first one, I guess like we should we should like kind of start a list, right? We'll start the lineup. Which, you know, there's things, but we're gonna make it the you know, the official lineup. So let's talk about what we got cooking. Uh I'll jump right in with the gate, gotta fix the front gate.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, I noticed that tonight. The it still hasn't been fixed.
SPEAKER_05:Well, okay. I mean you don't have to just you don't have to attack me. I mean, we're in this together.
SPEAKER_03:Oh yeah, we haven't got the gate done.
SPEAKER_05:There you go.
SPEAKER_03:That's more like it's it's solar. I don't know nothing about solar and small batteries, small other things, but not batteries. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05:No, I it's bigger batteries, they're still small, but okay, so the gate, um which really needs to be done because it was so nice that like two and a half weeks where it worked.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, yeah, when your brother was down here with his family. That was fantastic, and then all of a sudden I go, come over and push the button and nothing.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, it's terrible. Yeah. Um, what else? What are some big things that like we need to get done? Oh, crud. Did you say crud?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, because I didn't want to use shit.
SPEAKER_05:Oh, hold on. What else? Well, I mean, I I need to bleep that because I don't know if I think I don't know, it might be okay, but just to be on the safe side.
SPEAKER_03:So Well, if I had a pad and a piece of paper, I could write it down. Need to look up for podcasts. Can you cuss?
SPEAKER_05:Can you cuss? Well, since you said shit, I have to edit that out now.
SPEAKER_03:No, you gotta edit that out.
SPEAKER_05:Well, ain't that the shits? No, because that's me saying it is sort of no, that's not how it works.
SPEAKER_03:You see, it it works for Ryan to say shit, but not for me to say shit.
SPEAKER_05:That's not what I'm saying. Anyway, just say what you said again. I I got a bleep button, so I'm gonna bleep at this. Just say it again and I'll bleep it.
SPEAKER_03:I don't even remember what I said.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, me either. What were we talking about?
SPEAKER_03:Uh big projects that we need to get done.
SPEAKER_05:Oh, and then you said oh crud.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, I said oh crud, and then I said oh shit. Did you get it?
SPEAKER_05:No. Hold on.
SPEAKER_03:Oh crap. Okay, he's gonna have to learn how to edit.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, well, this is why this is yeah. But no, this isn't me avoiding having to edit, so if I can just bleep it in real time. Okay, I got it now. Go again.
SPEAKER_03:Okay, so yeah, I I said oh crud, and then I turned around and said, Oh shit. Got it. Did you get the whole thing? It it sounded like a late beep. Okay. Check it in nine months, see if you got a full bleep.
unknown:Okay.
SPEAKER_05:See, that's the funny stuff. It was like 13 minutes to get to anything.
SPEAKER_03:Anything that was worth a crap? Yeah. See, you didn't have to bleep that.
SPEAKER_05:No, I didn't. Um. So back to the list.
SPEAKER_03:Yes. What do we have to do? We have to uh well, how's the XFAT going? Good. Good. So no problems there. Nope. Uh F-150. Shot. Okay. Uh the Stuburban. Or the Ranch Force One.
SPEAKER_05:Yep. Rock solid.
SPEAKER_03:Rock solid, except for the parts that are missing.
SPEAKER_05:Which I have in my barn, so they're not technically missing.
SPEAKER_03:Okay, they're not missing. He knows where they're at. Tractor's running good.
SPEAKER_05:Running great. Yeah. Oh, that it that's one thing is uh so the bat, you know, the hood, the battery hood thing is off. Yes. Because the battery that's in there, I think I took it off the skitter. I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_03:I was it did you take it off for that, or because didn't you take a battery out when uh your brother was here?
SPEAKER_05:Probably.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_05:Um, but nonetheless, whichever battery is in it now, it's big enough to start it, but it's not the right like style because the posts stick up too high. Um, so if I put the cover on it would short it. Oh yeah, there's like a you know, there's that style where the terminals are like kind of sunken down.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_05:So I need I need to look around and see if I have a battery like that and swap it in there.
SPEAKER_03:Um out of the 17 that you have running around here somewhere.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, and um, you know, most of them most of them work.
SPEAKER_03:Well, that's a good thing.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, yeah, surprising.
SPEAKER_03:That's a good thing. Oh, and I did uh a little bit of research. Uh-huh. Yeah, on on cussing on a podcast.
SPEAKER_05:Just now?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_05:Oh.
SPEAKER_03:It says yes, you can cuss on a podcast, but you have to flag it as the episode is explicit on platforms like um Apple Podcasts and Spotify to warn listeners and maintain distribution. Oh, well so you consider the audience.
SPEAKER_05:Got it. Well, fuck. Stupid.
SPEAKER_03:Dude, I need one of those buttons over here.
SPEAKER_05:You know what? Uh maybe this could be a thing where you earn buttons. Like oh boy. I think that thing you did right there where you looked it up in real time, that that was pretty good. I'll give you a little brownie point for that.
SPEAKER_03:The whole one brownie point. You see me, I need like the whole bag of them.
SPEAKER_05:I I wasn't gonna say that.
SPEAKER_03:It's okay. I'm good with being fluffy.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, well, um, all right, so yeah, tractor battery, uh that's one. Um God, this is so embarrassing. Because again, one of the premises of this stupid show is so many things to do. Don't call it stupid. I didn't call it stupid. I it's bleeped out, so I wouldn't worry about it.
SPEAKER_03:I feel like I'm taking a hearing test. Yeah. Is that in your left ear, your right ear?
SPEAKER_04:Both ear.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah. Oh, oh, yeah, yeah. We need to bring the small utility trailer back over.
SPEAKER_03:Yes, we do.
SPEAKER_05:Which is there's it's more involved than it sounds, right?
SPEAKER_03:What, to bring it back? Yeah. No, uh-uh. Just take the tote out of it and uh hook it on to whatever sits lower.
SPEAKER_05:So the truck, I can bring it over with my truck and then we gotta cut the oh, I thought we had to do that before we brought it over.
SPEAKER_03:Had to do what?
SPEAKER_05:Cut the fenders off and put it.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, I mean we can we can do that before we brought it, bring it over, or we could just drag it back with the tires we drug it over there with.
SPEAKER_05:Well, I mean, the the we the the the new wheels and tires are over there.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, I'm I don't know if they're the same size, so I guess I'm gonna have to measure them the the lug pattern for the for the hubs.
SPEAKER_05:I thought we had figured out that it was, and that's why we ordered it.
SPEAKER_03:I think so, but I think if we cut off one of the the fenders, then we could try each tire and see if see if they both do. That way it'll haul a little bit more weight since it won't haul a 270-gallon tote full of water. Well, it will.
SPEAKER_05:But only once. Only once. Uh yeah. So I mean, my thing is the wheels and tires are over there.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_05:The only thing that's the only thing that's missing to do it over there is an angle grinder, right?
SPEAKER_03:No, I've got a I've got a grinder.
SPEAKER_05:Oh, well, there you go.
SPEAKER_03:I actually found it the other day when I was going through the connects container looking for other stuff.
SPEAKER_05:Oh, okay. Well, yeah, we'll just do it over there.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_05:Um, cool. Yep.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, that's that's probably the could be the funnest thing is is cutting that those off and then seeing if we can tack them back on or whatever, just leave them off since it probably isn't going on the road.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, I don't I don't see any reason to put them back on. Okay. Uh maybe we should do maybe we could do that later tonight. Okay. Maybe we could put our lapel mics on and do that because that would probably be a lot more entertaining than the show we got going.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, I'll have to get something with a lapel.
SPEAKER_05:As it turns out, that is one of the challenges with a lapel mic is uh the absence of a lapel. Yeah. Are we gonna have to wear suits when we do this?
SPEAKER_03:Oh no, I've never worn a suit.
SPEAKER_05:Oh no. I don't know. Can you get lapels on well, jackets have lapels?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, jackets have lapels. Okay.
SPEAKER_05:I mean you could probably clip it to the bill of your hat.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, you know, I've seen that in a in a bunch of stuff that I watched. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05:I mean, I feel like it'd be facing the wrong way, but I could try it.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, well that the back part actually moves, so you can Oh, it rotates? Yeah, it rotates.
SPEAKER_05:Oh, well, there you go. That's oh, I'm gonna do that too. Because it's really hard to get on my little collar.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05:Um it's not me. Is you. It is you. I know. Somebody calling? Nobody calling. They can put them on there because it's not a whole lot else going on.
SPEAKER_03:It's not my phone.
SPEAKER_05:We should we could call somebody. We could test the phone thing.
SPEAKER_03:Always test the phones. Who are we gonna call?
SPEAKER_05:I don't know, but I'm just sitting here. I'm like, are we already bailing ourselves out in the first episode? We couldn't even get somebody funny.
SPEAKER_03:I'd call my kid, but you'd have to just hold the bleep button.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah. I know.
SPEAKER_03:Uh oh crap, it was a text message. Oh, I know it was you. I told you that. Yeah, but I didn't well. I got my headphones on so it sounded like it was somewhere else. Oh.
SPEAKER_05:Should we call Rob?
SPEAKER_03:Hey, how did uh speaking of Rob? Yeah. Uh how did the cactus uh birthday go? Did he laugh at that?
SPEAKER_05:Uh you know, he didn't he well I he I was pausing for emphasis. He didn't let me finish. Um I was gonna say he didn't say all he said was aw he said Kai loved that, like in all caps.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, that is awesome.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, I thought it was a fun, I thought it was a fun video.
SPEAKER_03:It was it was really cool. It was really cool. He's what now four?
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, just turn four.
SPEAKER_04:Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_03:Seems like just yesterday he was three and fallen in cactus.
SPEAKER_04:I know.
SPEAKER_03:Let's go to the airport. Kai, go grab a cactus, bring it with you.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:The only cactus pretty you know, and I haven't seen any since then.
SPEAKER_05:There there are. Okay, there are quite a few. Like they're few and far between, but um in fact I couldn't find the one that he fell on. I had to go find a different cactus for the video.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, okay. Yeah, well, it's right there where his uh truck was.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, but I guess I don't remember where his truck was.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, okay. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05:I mean, I thought I did, but I went out there. I don't know. I did find uh Miller High Life or Miller High High Tutin.
SPEAKER_03:What's that one that Rob uh Cooper's Banquet?
SPEAKER_05:Yes, I found like one of those cans.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, yeah. It's kind of like when you go over to our property and you find Modellos.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, you should talk to somebody about that.
SPEAKER_03:Nah, it's funny. That makes me laugh every time I see one. Especially in the night of the forest fire when they were all around the perimeter.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah. Yeah, I think some of them are just gonna be there permanently.
SPEAKER_03:I you know, let the get a metal detector and let the kids out there to see what they can find. They'll just bring back a whole bunch of cans to recycle.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, I don't do you do you feel like they'd be disappointed, like, oh, another Modelican.
SPEAKER_03:I think after 10 minutes they'd get tired of looking and go dig holes somewhere.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah. I don't think Robbie would even indulge us in that, but no, you'd have to get him off the YouTube and the the PC first.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_05:Um, all right. Let's see.
SPEAKER_03:So what's our format supposed to be at? Uh our segment. What segment are we in?
SPEAKER_05:I had moved I don't know.
SPEAKER_03:Um for anybody that doesn't know Ryan, everything is structured.
SPEAKER_05:No, it's not.
SPEAKER_03:I was trying to make you sound good.
SPEAKER_05:Well, I want everything to be structured, but yeah. I don't know. Let's do let's do the let's do the mark method. Oh crap. You didn't even do it, did you?
SPEAKER_03:Uh no, because there's so many mark methods I don't remember which one I'm supposed to do.
SPEAKER_05:Well you that's the thing though, is you're supposed to have one like holstered up for the episode, each episode.
SPEAKER_03:Oh.
SPEAKER_05:I guess to be fair, I didn't necessarily say that.
SPEAKER_03:No, that wasn't in my homework.
SPEAKER_05:Yes. Okay, well, right.
SPEAKER_03:My homework was trying to find a different thing.
SPEAKER_05:Well, now we're gonna call Christina because pretty sure she was at the production meeting and she'd back me up. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I mean, I didn't I didn't necessarily I didn't tell you that we were gonna do an episode, which I I wasn't planning on it. But yes, going forward for each episode, you're gonna have to come up with because we have a segment called the mark method, you know that, right?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, yeah, I remember that in the production yes.
SPEAKER_05:So you know, you're gonna have to have something prepped. I mean, just something in your head. Like we could talk about uh well, since we're talking about the trailer, um I guess the mark method for getting a 275-gallon water tote um down the road would be to first try it without the strap, yes, and then have it fall on the road.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, then have to dump it out, dump it, do it again, yes, and then strap it down. And we lost one tire with the first round, had it out the gate, one one tire went, then we made it up to Little Hill, and when it by the time we got up the little hill, second tire was gone and the top was not in there anymore. Right. So we watered the road, yeah.
SPEAKER_05:I mean, that's a lot of water.
SPEAKER_03:It was it actually with as warm as it was, it actually lasted for two days, days of moisture on the road.
SPEAKER_05:Did it?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, it did.
SPEAKER_05:I didn't even notice that. Yep. All right, so let's see. Let's but you're but you asked about the format. So the lineup was a bust, main segment was a bust, park method was a bust. Maybe we tried uh crater corner.
SPEAKER_03:Crater corner, I thought we were looking at different names for that.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, we are.
SPEAKER_03:Okay. Well, I've got a few.
SPEAKER_05:Okay, well, let's let's talk about that.
SPEAKER_03:Okay, so uh number one on my list is the parking lot, since it is we're on Miloak Ranch and it does have a bunch of rehomed dogs that Ryan went and found. And then we have uh animal antics. And then we have which is there's a lot of antics around here with uh with the animals, and then we have paws and whiskers, because there is also the cats, they're indoor cats, they're not outdoor cats. You open the door and they go, What the are you doing to me? I don't want to go there.
SPEAKER_05:Oh, sorry, I thought it was coming.
SPEAKER_03:Oh no, uh-huh I've I've learned.
SPEAKER_05:I'm getting better at the thing though.
SPEAKER_03:Then also got the pet collective.
SPEAKER_05:Okay. Um the only one that I thought of, which I think I had thought of before, was the dog pile.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, that's right. You did bring that up in the production meeting.
SPEAKER_05:I think the barking lot. Let's do the barking lot. I don't know. Is that too cutesy? It's like, oh, it's in the barking, you know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, yeah. I mean, I was I'm I'm good with the barking lot, and I I like the dog pile, uh, but also because there is the dogs and the cats, there's the you know, the paws and whiskers.
SPEAKER_05:Oh, pause, yeah, paws and whiskers. How about the paws and whiskers barking lot dog pile?
SPEAKER_03:It's a three-way.
SPEAKER_05:I'll just okay. Okay, we'll we'll roll that. Well, let's just try to do the segment then. Okay, let's do it. What is it?
SPEAKER_03:Uh the segment on the Yeah, what are we supposed to do for it? Uh well, we're supposed to talk about the animals. A little bit about the like all of them or uh well, we could do the first one as a little take on each one.
SPEAKER_05:I mean, you've got oh that's too many. Well maybe we should start with the Hartley method. The Hartley method. Hmm, the Hartley method. Everything I see, I put it in my mouth. Yeah. Uh and drag it around. And then anybody I see, dog, cat, or person, I kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss. Yep. That's the Hartley method.
SPEAKER_03:Well, it was cool yesterday because uh he was a big boy. Ryan led him out, and uh he was outside playing, and then his brothers, excuse me, can I and and Lucky come over to the the property, and here comes Hartley. Look what I did, look what I did. So he's over there playing with our dog Ellie. She's two years old, a little bit over two years old. And so I Christine was like, Do you think Ryan knows? I'm like, no. So I called you, said, Hey, just let you know I got Hartley. You offered to come get him, and I'm like, no, Ellie's. They didn't. I was trying to make you sound like a good pet dad.
SPEAKER_05:No. If if people think that, they're gonna like want to give me more animals, more animals, but yeah.
SPEAKER_03:So Hartley stayed over at the house for a while, played with our dog, and then uh Lucky and Kennai decided they were gonna go go wander, and Hartley missed out on wandering. So Christine and I brought him back over to the house for Ryan.
SPEAKER_05:Do you think it's because we feel like we're doing an episode is why we suck right now?
SPEAKER_03:It's a possibility.
SPEAKER_05:Like feel like we're in it, or like there's expectations.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, there's never an expectation in my life.
SPEAKER_05:Well, I know, but because like the other thing we did was great.
SPEAKER_03:I know, it was just kind of sh.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:Well, hold on, people, we'll go through and re-listen to that and see if we can't find our mojo again.
SPEAKER_05:Well, I I think it's that I think it's that we were I think it's that we're trying to do an episode. Yeah. I think maybe the way that the our episodes are gonna work is that we don't do that.
SPEAKER_03:We just well, yeah, because if we're if we're gonna take it and just base it off, okay, this segment, this segment, this segment, and then we're gonna have to take the time to write, okay, this is what this segment's about. This one's a this segment is about, where the the test that we did earlier was just kind of throw it out there and go.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, and I think I don't recall how long that was. Um I think it was about 14 minutes. Yeah. I was kind of keeping time. Like, I guess to me, uh like I do want to hold on, let me look here. Oh, nope, porn back up. Yeah, be real careful what you click on that computer over there, by the way.
SPEAKER_03:Oh yeah, I already typed in BBC.
unknown:Okay.
SPEAKER_03:I didn't get chickens.
SPEAKER_04:Did you get British news? Yeah, yeah, the BBC. Um, let's see, like like yeah, well it was like 16 minutes.
SPEAKER_05:So I was kind of I was kind of just eyeing the the clock. Um because I was anyway, that was internal monologue. What I was getting at is really f the the reason for having uh and format in my head was mm less about like segments and that kind of stuff and more about just keeping time. So I think we should just we should just do that. We should just shoot for shoot for 40 minutes. Okay if we get above 35 and below 45, then we're good. And you know, forget these segments. Fuck these segments. I don't think it's gonna work for us.
SPEAKER_03:You didn't believe for yourself.
SPEAKER_05:Oh fuck these segments, man. Fuck these s no um I don't I don't think it's gonna work for us, do you?
SPEAKER_03:Uh probably not, not the way you and I roll.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, probably just like I think just in a broad sense. I think it just needs to be um yeah, like well, I think well this has gone terribly. I mean we can say that.
SPEAKER_03:I don't know how you say it's gone terribly. We we we have actually started on something that we've talked about for months. That that is great.
SPEAKER_05:That's good. I'm talking about um the fact that nobody in the right mind would listen to this. It's been pretty boring, uh don't you think?
SPEAKER_03:Well, uh well, to the the listeners, yeah, it's gonna be boring, but to us, I mean it's a it's a learning curve. Yes, it's like a 90-degree curve right now.
SPEAKER_05:This is like yeah, this is like uh episode zero.
SPEAKER_03:It's it's like totally off from what we usually do. That's true, yeah. Yeah, we should have just called it the porch talk. The porch talk. Yeah, because that's where we always pull crap out, is out on the porch.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, that's true. I mean, we can see uh it's worth looking at. Like, I mean, we will we'll see how that audio turned out when we were out there earlier. Yeah. I mean, there's a chance that although at the same time, you know, like the other thing we did earlier worked out great.
SPEAKER_03:I it was a fluke, people. It was a fluke.
SPEAKER_05:I think it was a fluke.
SPEAKER_03:No, I I don't, I don't, I think there's some you know, there's some good learning curves here. Nobody will probably hear this one but us, but it it tells us where we're starting at and what we are looking for in an and excuse me, and result.
SPEAKER_05:Maybe what we should do is um just like defer to other people. We'll just have a guest every week. Okay. I'm just kidding.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, let's call in Finley. He'll he'll just bark about it. Yeah, that wouldn't be that great.
SPEAKER_05:Um, yeah, no, I I agree. Um I'm not saying no, I'm this is all a good exercise, don't get me wrong. And I'm glad that we're doing this. What I'm saying is that not that this is bad, what I'm saying is that I think we've learned is the approach that we were thinking is not gonna work for us.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, yeah, because we're we're too just by the seat of our pants on that. You know, we start going about something that you know we've been through. I mean, shit, we've known bleep, we've been known we've known each other for yeah, thank you, for almost 20 years.
SPEAKER_04:That's true.
SPEAKER_03:I mean, yeah, you gotta think all the stuff that that we did before, uh, and then you left and kind of left me up there. And now I'm I'm here, you know, after all this time. It's you know, we we got a lot of stuff that we've done since May when I came down. A lot of stupid stuff. But it's funny, it's funny getting rigs stuck in the middle of the night, having to walk back to Ryan's house, and then the next day you fly a drone over the rig to say, Yep, there it is, and then the next day you go work on getting it out of there. So, I mean, it's there's just so much stuff that we've done, and we're just gonna have to continue on with that, you know, the the silly things, yeah.
SPEAKER_05:The silly things, yeah.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, and and some seriousness in there too with uh with the ranch and what it's what it's for and and who it's for, actually. It's it's not even actually for it's for the animals. Yeah. Yep. So yeah, we can we can go from there. We can well, I mean, we've got so much stuff to talk about once we figure it out and go.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, yeah. Um and maybe uh I'm almost thinking like maybe my instinct about like having like not jumping into you know like telling story like old stories or whatever right out the gate. Maybe that was wrong. Like maybe I don't know, because the other thing worked out well. Maybe we should try we should try we should try that again. Like the next one we record, just be like, let's pick one of our stories, like the forest fire or whatever, right? That we were gonna do as a short, and let's just let's just do that and talk about that and tell the story, and maybe that's maybe that's where we find the magic's gonna be. And um maybe the podcast ends up being that instead of what we thought. I don't know. Yeah, oh, we're getting a call. No, we're not. We can't get calls.
SPEAKER_03:We feel better. Uh the other thing is this is I think that we do need to send this one out, at least for the people we know that are gonna listen to it. And then they can critique it and help us make it something better than what what we've we've made it because we've kind of flushed it here now. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05:I was thinking maybe excuse me, maybe we send out the one we did earlier. Yeah. That was pretty good. I think it was pretty good.
SPEAKER_03:That was that was pretty Yeah, because off the wall banter and and stuff like that, like we've always done.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, and um Yeah, and I was yeah, I I mean I'll have to listen to it again, but I think it was pretty good, and I was almost thinking we could make that uh were that not like the they do let uh like some of them do like trailers, you know. So like the very first excuse me, the very first episode that they quote episode they post in the feed is like a trailer, so do like, you know, a minute or two kind of clips and then this is what it's gonna be. And then other you know, other podcasts do like an ep the first episode is like introducing, you know, this podcast, and it's like basically an episode of what we just did before. And you know, if it was as decent as I think it was, like maybe maybe we send it out to people and get feedback. And if you know, if if people are like more or less like, yeah, that's you know, it doesn't suck or whatever, then maybe we could publish that as like the introducing set and centered to get the feed and get the thing and so people could start to follow it and stuff. Yeah. Um and then maybe I'm just spitballing, but I think yeah, I think the next thing we record is let's do what we did with that, and we'll pick uh pick a story like The Forest Fire or The Witty Visit, or you know that was a good visit. Yeah, it was a great visit, and just kind of like bullshit about it. And yeah, that's man, those first 10, 15, whatever minutes of the same were rough. It's like oof.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, it's it's I mean, you kind of feel like you're on the spot, and it's not gonna like to do something.
SPEAKER_05:Like, what do I do with my hands?
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:Uh twirl the cord that our headphones are plugged into.
SPEAKER_05:Okay. Um believe it or not, though, I don't know if you have any notion of time, but we've actually it's coming up on 40 minutes.
SPEAKER_03:Already?
SPEAKER_05:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:Wow, that's the longest I've lasted in a while.
SPEAKER_05:I was gonna say, like, I guess it can't be that bad unless No, I know I don't think it's bad. I mean, uh it's I know. I get just understand what I'm saying. Like, I think it's great. I think it's fun. I've been having fun with it. I'm just I guess I'm trying, I guess I'm listening to it like it. It's a little I shouldn't, whatever. But so we should wrap this up. But I do, if you don't mind, I do want to call Rob just to see if the phone thing works.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, let's call Mr. Witty.
SPEAKER_05:Okay.
SPEAKER_04:Let's see, so I gotta take that off mute. And I think that should be it.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, I hear it.
SPEAKER_04:Oh really?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, that's in my headphones.
SPEAKER_04:Oh good.
SPEAKER_05:Hey buddy what's going on? Can you hear me? Yeah. Hold hold on, I'll come back. Okay, I gotta figure out let me pull up the manual here.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, for your phone?
SPEAKER_05:Huh? No, no, no. Uh I've got the thing that plugs into the phone, but like just the little headphone cable. Oh, okay. This one has four sections. And the one I had uh was using a three. And it says specifically in the manual. If you're using a four contact, signal can be input from a smartphone and signal can be sent back to it. Since the output signal does not include the sound from the smartphone channel, guest participating my phone will not have an echo. Why? Well.
SPEAKER_03:I don't think you've got to worry about it.
SPEAKER_05:Alright. Oh my god, I worked. Hey, you're live on the podcast, bud.
SPEAKER_01:Uh ready to be interviewed. Uh what kind of questions do you got for me?
SPEAKER_05:Why are we so yeah. Um right at that moment we did have a technical issue and we lost the call with Rob and the tail end of the episode. So uh this is RJ just telling you that's the end of the episode. We'll catch y'all next time. Maybe we'll get it together. Thanks for listening.
SPEAKER_03:Hey, it's Mark here at Set and Centered. Uh, just want to let everybody know that if they want to catch us on the socials, you can catch us at our webpage, setcenter.live, or on Facebook at Set Center Live. Uh, we'll maybe post some little stupid videos that we've done, stuff like that as we keep on going. And also we talk a lot about the animals here on the ranch. And you can we'll post pictures of them. We'll see how it goes. Let us know. Have a good one.
SPEAKER_02:It always shows we're sins in a kind of sort of maybe holding it together with zip ties, baby. Dogs in the dirt, giving side eye shade, laughing through the mess that we just made. If you broke it up You can count on that socket's gone when blows gate won't latch. Toolbox open like a raccoon got snatched. Coffee cold, temp, I sweat, still talking like we got it. You bet we take a breath, then we jump back in. Same two clowns, same old grim, we sit and sit up on a sort of baby. Hold it together, we step ties, baby. Dogs did the dirt, give the side I stayed, laughing through the mess. We just made yet standard, but the world's off track, broke it up. You can tell that break time yell it all unwind. Thousand dogs judging with that thousand-yard mind. Project list is long, but we'll get fair soon. That's a lie, but it's a good time. We said it's in a kind of sorta, maybe held together by stubborn and a little crazy. You're still listening to one of the pack. Now back to the chaos.
