We head outside to record under a cloudy sky, trade telescope tips we can’t use, and dig into the strange comfort of a slow, honest show. Between Starlink mishaps and ranch projects, we find a lane that feels calm, funny, and unforced.

Unplugged In The Wild

SPEAKER_01

Hey everyone, welcome back to set and centered. I'm RJ. I'm Mark. And probably sounds a little different to the listeners today. I would think it would. Yeah. Um, we're doing our first episode. What are we gonna call we never talked about what we should call it? It's like set and centered in the wild. Oh yeah, or the outdoor set and centered.

SPEAKER_02

Outdoor set and uh no, I like it in the wild, but unplugged. Unplugged. No, but we're yeah, because we're on Bluetooth, so let's go with unplugged.

Smart Telescopes And Clouded Skies

SPEAKER_01

Well, I think it you could take it like the literal route, I guess. I was going for like, you know, layered meanings, if you will. Or unplugged in general. Yes, sir. Uh how about set and center raw? No, that's set and center bareback, as might as well be. All right. In the wild. In the wild. Let's go within the raw dog. Yeah. No raw dog in here. No raw dog in here on this show. Um yeah, so we are this is our first attempt to uh record an episode of the show outside, uh, pretty much in the wild. I mean, we're here on the ranch. Um and we we we we started arguing about nebulas a few minutes ago. Um, so this we didn't really plan to record this episode. Um, but we thought, you know, we had talked about doing one outside. Right? Yep, we have. And what we came out here to do originally is not working out.

SPEAKER_02

No, which is uh well, oh yeah, doing the astrophotography and stuff.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, because we're uh well, is it astrophotography or is it astro telescope the wait, telescopy? Colonoscopy? No. Colonel It's still called astrophotography. Yeah. Yeah. Because we've got uh we we we both have the are they are they called smart telescopes? Is that what they're called? Yeah, it's a smart telescope. Okay, so we both have those. Um I've had mine for a little bit, but haven't really ever used it. You got one recently, and along with that, we both have a renewed interest in Telask, no stars. Stars, shoot shooting the night sky, which out here is absolutely just unbelievably gorgeous.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, it's just it's beautiful. It it you know, the only problem tonight is there's a lot of clouds that we're hoping all eventually go away, but they just look to be getting thicker and thicker, but yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Uh I thought you were gonna call somebody about that.

SPEAKER_02

About the clouds? Yeah, I did, but they wanted answer. They're pissed at me. You have the right you call NASA, right? No, NASA doesn't do anything for oh. I called I called Musk. Oh, well, could he do that? I figured if anybody could do it, Musk could do it. He's got a he's got a lot of big rockets. Yeah, I have him and SpaceX, they should be able to do that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, excuse me. Uh SpaceX uh and Starlink. Well, Starlink is a division of SpaceX. Oh, okay. Yeah, you didn't know that really.

Starlink Mishaps And Ranch Life

SPEAKER_02

Uh no, I don't pay attention to that as long as I can get my YouTube's. Did you know it was an Elon Musk company, Starlink, though? Oh, yeah, I didn't know that was Elon Musk. Yeah. And we're not like fanboys of Elon Musk. Um we just like his products because we both we both have Starlink. I'm telling you, man.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, of course, out here we have I mean, we don't have to have Starlink, but it's the only viable option. Uh because the old school satellite radio is bullshit. Oh yeah. And apart from that, I think you maybe could get some DS. I don't even think DSL, honestly. Um so yeah, uh Starlink. I'm currently in a fight with the AAI, the Starlink AI and the customer support thing. Um that'll which is really my fault uh for not bolting that fucking thing down four years ago. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

But on the flip side, it lasted four years. Yeah, mine fell off the the top of the fifth wheel today, and it it landed face up, and I still get Starlink, so I haven't worried about putting it back up there and bolting it down. Christina'll get mad if I put you know big old lag bolts through the slide-outs. Probably. Um I'd get mad too.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So you're so yeah, mine was good for four years, and yours good like for like four days. Because you just moved it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah. We just moved it after we got the the trench dug and the the water and and uh electricity powered up here. We moved the both the little trailer and the fifth wheel, so that makes it nice and a different location. The little trailer. What's that?

SPEAKER_01

The little trailer.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, the little trailer.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah. Oh saying it for emphasis.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah. Not the utility trailer. Not the utility trailer, it's a little RV, 25 foot. Uh yes. Yep. So got those in place and all that covered up and and done. Just a couple more little things to move around and we'll be good to go on that.

SPEAKER_01

Which was an excellent segue back to I wonder what you call that, like like a seg back, because that was a really good tie-in. Did you notice what you did? Because I jumped in and clarified that it was not the utility trailer. Right. We've thought about that before. Yes, we have. And then you said kind of ended your thing, like saying, you know, we just gotta get some stuff moved up. And that's a great seg back to the utility trailer, which uh I had with me last night or the night before for reasons. Oh, to pick up big piles of wood that my mom left all over the ranch. And I left it here, and so it's it's here ready to go for your piles of stuff.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I was gonna need my ball though. Yeah, I did need your ball because I I got a two-inch ball and it's a one in seven-eighths ball. So my ball's too might be one ball's too big.

SPEAKER_01

All your balls are too big, is what you're saying.

SPEAKER_02

One ball's too bigger than the other one. Yeah.

unknown

Jesus Christ.

SPEAKER_01

I'm surprised. Well, I'm not surprised you remember all the different ball sizes, but it is isn't it surprising that I don't remember all the ball sizes when you think about it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Because your one your one hitch has three balls and a hook. It does, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And so, like that, yeah, that's one of the reasons probably I don't remember the ball sizes, because I don't need to. It's like hook, small ball, medium ball, big ball. Yeah. Um, and uh this really doesn't track or make any sense, but I'm just gonna say it because what was in my head. Speaking of balls, you got me a uh you got me a gift for my birthday recently, uh tripod for set for these telescopes that were my telescope.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Because which is very nice. Thank you again. Yeah, you're welcome. Um because I well, when we started talking about it, I was like, Yeah, I have one, but I don't have a tripod and whatever. Uh yeah, really, it's a really cool thing. Um and then did you have the same one?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I got the exact same one as you.

SPEAKER_01

Cool, cool. Yeah, it's nice. Um I did bring uh uh we talked about because it's windy, uh, weighing it down, and I was like, oh, well there's a hook in the and then you were like, well, it says to get something that hangs close to the ground, blah blah and I'll tell you why, because gravity, probably or something. Probably, but I'm like, no, dude, uh I got extra tires off the X-bed, like a ratcheting strap, ch ching, done. Like, we'll not overcomplicate our lives. Yeah, it wasn't going anywhere. No, uh, yeah, I didn't bring that, but I did bring a an anchor. It's this little box right here, actually, that's holding down the new table that I made, which is just another box for my truck. But it's the battery box, and inside it is a really heavy six-disc changer that I ripped out of the X-bed. Oh, yeah, and a ratchet strap.

SPEAKER_02

So there you go. I remember those six disc changers. That was a long time ago.

SPEAKER_01

No, I just brought it over here today.

SPEAKER_02

Well, no, but when they first came out with them.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I'm well, yeah. This one was in the center console. I remember, I think I may have had a car one time, it was in the trunk. Right, right.

Trailers, Tow Balls, And Shop Talk

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I've always had trucks, so they were always underneath the back seat.

SPEAKER_01

Even in four, well, I guess you didn't have one at four because this one was in the console. Oh, they probably did put them under the back seat because this thing took up the whole fucking console. Yeah. Somebody was probably one day like, oh, this is stupid. We should put it somewhere else.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I always I always installed mine from one rig to the other because I I used to be really notorious for about every two years getting rid of one rig and getting another, so I'd rip all that crap out.

SPEAKER_01

What? You yeah, what different different rigs? Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I've been doing pretty good. It's I mean, I bought the one ton in June, but that's the first new rig I bought in three years. Newer. It's not new, but I needed something to haul the fifth wheel from Washington State down here to Texas.

SPEAKER_01

And four-wheel drive. Well, you're sorry, you have I mean your Tahoe's four-wheel drive. Yep, Tahoe's four-wheel drive. But if you towed the fifth wheel with that, it'd be really noisy inside.

SPEAKER_02

I'd have yeah, I'd have to cut the top off the top. I'd be missing most of the roof. I'd probably lose a dog or two on the way out.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I think you'd be okay if you only lost one dog, depending on which one. But if you lost both, you get in trouble.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, if if I lost the bulldog, then probably wouldn't be in as much trouble.

SPEAKER_01

She's just like, oh, just keep going. That's fine. That's a good thing.

SPEAKER_02

That's the one thing about the bulldog, she's so old now that she can't jump that high. So yeah, we actually I actually built him steps today. Uh one is because I'm getting old, having trouble getting up and down steps, but easier for Christina also. And then Maggie, she couldn't get up and down the RV steps, so you had to pick the potato up and put her down. So that's going down. Yeah. Going back up, you just put my foot in her butt. There you go. Just barely touch her butt and she said, Oh, and runs. But yeah, now she loves going in and out. That's great, yeah. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

You've been like really killing it here the last uh couple weeks, getting all kinds of shit done.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I had to do something to impress your mom. I mean, I could you couldn't tell her that for the last three weeks I've sat on my ass and watched YouTube. Well, you know, uh yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Which I did, which you did, but at the same time, you got a lot of stuff done. And I don't I don't think you're trying to impress anybody. You got some good momentum, and you know, you got your steps on and all that. And you know what they say, one step at a time. One step at a time. Oh, geez. Did we talk about the clouds?

SPEAKER_02

That the clouds rolled in, so we can't. Yeah. Oh, we already covered that. I don't know. Somebody put baby in a corner. Don't don't. Oh, yeah. Uh, I did get some feedback from Christina, and she's I think her and Cindy said that you need to uh watch uh um dirty dancing. Um get caught up on I'll tell you a couple thoughts on that.

SPEAKER_01

Uh if you flash if you go back a few weeks in my life, I would have no problem watching Dirty Dancing, and I'm sure it's a great movie. Um but now it does have some association with uh what do they call it, PTSD? Um, because of you. Um and also I think there was I think one of the listeners made a comment that they would like to have they would like to see um an ep or hair an episode where basically I have been forced to watch Dirty Dancing and Funny Nemo because you brought that up too. Oh yeah. And then give my review. Yeah. Um I don't know if I don't think that's fair to those movies because it's since I'll be watching them under duress, my review maybe just be really bitchy. Well, we'll still find out. We're gonna sit you down and make you watch them.

SPEAKER_03

Oh god.

Gifts, Tripods, And Old Tech

SPEAKER_01

I mean, I'm sure uh the cartoon one I'm uh I mean I'll I'll do it if I have to. If the listeners really want it, I'll do it. Cartoon one's gonna be a slug. I'm not big on those kind of movies, but I'm sure dirty dancing's good. Like yeah, it's good. Yeah, people talk about it.

SPEAKER_02

So actually Jennifer Gray before she got her nose job. Nobody liked her anymore. Jesus Christ. Who's Jennifer Gray? She played in dirty dancing. And what'd she play? Uh she played Baby.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, okay. Yeah. Still don't know who she is. Um oh, did you hear that? Uh speaking of um things, did you hear that? Uh goddamn, I forgot his fucking name. Uh not Dean Kane.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, one of the one of the carotines?

SPEAKER_01

No. Oh. You just go saying C names now? Is that what you're saying?

SPEAKER_02

No, because one of the carodines just passed away, also.

SPEAKER_01

No, that's not a thing. I don't know. What the fuck is a kerodine? Uh, you had um Oh, Eric Dane. That's what I was thinking of. Okay. Do you he did you hear he just died? No, uh yeah, like just a few days ago. Who's he?

unknown

God damn it.

SPEAKER_01

I knew it. Are you being serious? Yeah. I just I was like, uh I was telling my mom this, I think I was driving to the airport because we were talking about it. I'm like, you know that she's like, uh I'll have to make I'll have to make sure Mark knows that. Because like he knows everybody, so now we okay. Uh you know, well, another thing I just thought of. Let me tell you who Eric Dane is. Uh he's he's an actor man. Um he was on things probably in the past. Um, but uh I guess it's another segback because he had a starring role in a show that you should have seen by now. Okay called The Last Ship. Don't say it. Last ship. Remember when I told you to watch that?

SPEAKER_02

And you're like, I'm gonna get right on that. I got it, I got it cued. I got it cued, but I went a different direction.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I didn't, and um I really didn't expect you'd watch it anytime soon, or ever maybe. But yeah, he was like he was on that show, and that's where I knew him from. He was also on uh ER, maybe? I don't fucking know. McGuffin? No, McMc McM McStud Muffin? I don't know. McStudmuffin. Somebody was tell like I don't know if that was his name or like a nickname he had that show. Oh, but yeah, anyways, um now that you're up to speed on him, uh he's dead. Okay. That's another one. Plus the carry the the carrier guy. The carradine carradine. I know. Wait, no, did it actually die? A keradine? I believe it was. Oh, like no. For a second, I oh no, who's the guy in Kill Bill? Is that a kerodine? Uh probably. Sure. I don't know. The the he played somebody in Kill Bill. Um which oh Bill. He played Bill.

SPEAKER_02

You don't know what I'm talking about? No. Oh my gosh. My daughter loves those movies, and I'm I just couldn't get into it. Really?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I mean, I could kind of they're they're really good. I'll say that. Um, I can see why you couldn't get into it potentially though. Although if we're gonna make each other watch movies, I may what make you watch that one. Not because I'm like it's one of my favorite movies, but because uh they recently came out with uh not director's cut, but um a whatever where they put both volumes together and change a little bit so it ties together and it's like six hours long. Oh, okay. So I should make you watch that. Yeah, yeah. Not David Carradine. David Carrodine. There's a carradine for you. Okay. All right. Now we're doing carradine. What? When did he pass away? Oh, I don't know. I was pretty excited I figured out the first part. Um he's probably dead because he was dead.

SPEAKER_02

I thought it was a while ago that he passed away.

SPEAKER_01

Uh it wasn't that long, 2009.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

You know, that's the same year that Patrick Swayze died.

SPEAKER_02

It is. It was a bad year for actors. Two of them that we know of.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, bad year for actors.

SPEAKER_03

Oh yeah, probably.

Movie Tangents And 80s Icons

SPEAKER_01

I mean, bad year for the Swayze family and the Carradine family, I suppose. Yeah, yeah. Um, you know, goddammit. I I hate that I'm doing this right now because I feel like for a podcast about a dog ranch and all this stuff, we spent too so much time on Patrick Swayze. But I'm really I it was a real question. Like, was he famous? Like, I know like he was because I know the name, but like did was he in stuff, like a lot of stuff?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he uh Patrick Swayze. Oh yeah, he was in Ghost, he was in um Oh no, no, no, no with Whoopi Goldberg. With Whoopi Goldberg. Oh, they were both in it, yeah. Yeah, and Demi Moore. Yeah, and then he was in Point Break. And he uh no, that was Keanu Reeves. Oh, yeah. He was also in there. Uh see him. He played opposite of Keanu. I'm getting caught up in this whole two people can be in a movie thing. Okay, what else? Uh of course, Dirty Dancing. Yep. Road the original Roadhouse. Yep. And I can't. Oh, he was in uh Red Dawn back in like 1984. Oh, no, no, no. That was a recent movie that came out in like 2015. Well, the original Red Dawn.

SPEAKER_01

We're uh I'm just I don't want to get in the whole original remake of call the same thing, and is it really Red Dawn 2? You won't remember what the hell we're talking about. No, you you won't remember, and I'll be pissed. Uh okay, fair enough. So there were there was a remake of Red Dawn. That's the one I'm thinking of, but you're talking about the original. Yep. In the 80s. Yes. With Patrick Swayze. Yes. Got it. Looking at that connects. What about that connex?

SPEAKER_02

Well, it says Mersk. Mersk. Well, like you and Rob talked about, we can just get rid of a couple letters and make it mark. Um or or Mac. No, we won't do a Mac. Nope, nope. You do do a Mac though. You're a Mac guy. I am a Mac guy. That's what I was known in in the military, because they always try to abbreviate your name, so I was Mac.

SPEAKER_01

But you're that doesn't oh I get it. I was gonna say your name's Mark. Well, it is what it is. They just took a letter out. Well they know it's your talk your last name they're talking about. Yeah, the last name. They just I gotcha. Yeah. Which, of course, we you know, we don't share our last name. Did you hear that? Yeah, shutting down automatically. The literature the listeners heard that. Yeah. Um as much as it probably is appropriate for this podcast episode, because it's so uh uh exciting, it is not the microphone shutting itself down in in in protest. It's what was that? No, it was my telescope. It was your telescope, yeah. Because mine talks to me, and you're like, oh, mine's supposed to talk, but I don't know how to get it to talk. And you're we we're so different, you and I, because I'm like, mine talks to me, and I can't figure out how to fucking turn it off. And it talks to me all the time. You're like, ooh, how'd I turn that on?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I can't figure out how to turn it on.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, um, that's what I've heard.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, hey, uh we actually got some feedback on what? On our podcast.

SPEAKER_01

Uh oh, uh like a review or something?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, uh, just somebody giving us some feedback. Let me find it. It's okay. Here we go. This is uh from somebody, we'll just call her the vodka queen. Fair enough. This is listen to uh to your guys' last two podcasts this morning. You guys I'm sorry, I pushed the wrong button. You guys are doing great. Love the commentary. I was a little worried you were offending Ryan's mom and chased her off. She didn't know your mom very well. Yeah, but she came back, lol. I decided to listen to the podcast this morning, which was about a week ago. Instead of in the afternoon while I was taking a break. But you're here's the fun part. Uh-huh. But both your voices are so monotone. What? Soothing and calming. Oh. You put me to sleep, lol. What? Yeah, it takes me a few days to get through one podcast.

SPEAKER_03

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's that's why I nicknamed her the vodka queen. Because she's mean, I guess. Wait, keep are you done? Uh more. Maybe one of you needs to have a voice like Robin Williams in the movie Good Morning Vietnam. What am I supposed to do? Scream, good morning, Texas! I mean, shit. Don't. Yeah. No, don't. I don't uh not meaning any diss on your podcast. I do enjoy listening, so I am able to stay caught up on what and how you guys are doing.

SPEAKER_01

Well, is that it? That's it. Okay. Um, here's my first thought. That was a wild ride. Yeah. The whole thing for me, emotionally. Yeah. Uh and another thing I'll say. So basically, we're a wave machine. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

She turns us, she turns us on to put her to sleep. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It's like the ocean noise. Which on the one hand no, it's all just kind of I I don't know how to take that. I guess I'll say this. Um a lot of people have trouble sleeping. Myself included, you included. Yeah. And maybe that could be our niche. Because we have a lo loyal we grow an audience of people. quote listeners who don't listen to it but they get they they rest well yeah welcome to the soothing voices of mark and ryan yeah that's i that's the first time i've heard anybody say we're soothing yeah but i mean and i don't know how monotone what how in the hell can you say that we're monotone i bel I entirely agree with you mark we are anything but no uh um you know what i think it is because i don't think we're monotone either here's what i think i was telling somebody this after you had mentioned you hadn't read me the full review but you'd mentioned something about monotone i think what it is is when you if you listen to podcasts which you don't but i'm sure yeah you listen to or not you watch youtube i'm sure you've seen plenty of things that are kind of like a podcast but like these place I don't want to call it buddy comedy but like that genre where it's just like a couple people just kind of bullshitting uh right okay yeah I'm listening so there'd be no way to know uh and you know what I just realized too we're out here outside yep not in the studio and one of the things that listeners know that we had comes up comically sometimes in the studio we can't see each other right and I'm just now realizing we still can't because it's fucking dark it's dark and we're both facing the same direction again back to the thing where I'm like if I'm saying something I'd be like you know just a little are you still there but yeah okay what god dang it what was I saying Mark uh oh that's your turn this time you figure it out yeah um oh yeah so this type of like podcast right right yeah yeah yeah where I when you listen to them the the people that do them are like so I don't want to say artificially but like sort of overhyped you know they'll be like be like hey everybody welcome back to Set and Center how you doing Mark you know what I'm saying like that kind of thing like they try to make it sound like it's a party they're having a great time and like that's cool that's fine. Right um but like that sounds like a lot of work shit load of work for me. I mean Jesus Christ and I mean if we have some if we have some angle with this insomniac demographic okay you know what follower's a follower yeah and you know what that's actually not bad because uh you wouldn't have to deal with any like or not much you know feedback or criticism be like yeah we have like a shit ton of listeners which we don't maybe someday and then be like yeah we don't we don't you know they don't have anything to say about it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah as far as they're concerned it's great. Yeah well they fall asleep and don't know what the hell it was about.

SPEAKER_01

Well no shit that's what I'm saying Mark like what what crit what criticism are they as long as we get the first like three minutes decent yeah they're gonna be happy with it.

SPEAKER_02

Well we're gonna have to go through and listen to see if we have the first three minutes decent of this one? Of any of them.

Are We Monotone Or Soothing

SPEAKER_01

Yeah oh no I think uh we have like the first three seconds decent every time with the music yeah yeah the intro and the outro is good often it just goes downhill from there. Yeah it's like your initials wait mountain valley mountain kind of yeah mountain valley mountain valley mountain valley yeah I just whole bunch of them yeah um yeah and that you know I I'll be honest because uh uh well uh analytics and stuff which we'll talk about that in a second but there's all kind of things and like in my head uh and again if y'all have been listening since the beginning we said right out the gate we don't know what the hell we're doing we've never done this blah blah blah and in my head it's like if somebody pushes a play button it's like yay they're a follower and a subscriber whatever it's so much more to it you probably knew this already but like you know a follower is not a listener is not you know whatever and then you know some people hit play and listen for 30 seconds some people for five minutes you know right and the number of people that listen to the whole thing is like very low compared to the number of people that started and like so I can see like I guess I can see the rationale for like at least right out the gate be like hey we get some fucking uh guess the music like the DJ horns you know because they want to get people at the at the jump and my thing is you know again that's sounds like a lot of work yeah it's too much work. We're here yeah we're doing a I think a a pretty decent pretty good podcast not for everybody.

SPEAKER_02

No I mean but nothing's for everybody. Yeah so yeah everybody that you know we've we've talked to you know friends and family and stuff they they really enjoy it and they're always waiting for the next episode to come out yeah except for you know who's not waiting for the next episode to come out is the one person who has been waiting eagerly for the next episode to come out you know I'm talking about oh yeah the last the last one we did uh Mr.

SPEAKER_01

Robbie yeah yeah um as I told you he as soon as he got off the phone with us he texted me which was like five minutes before we got done recording and well what he said was let me know when it's published which those of you listen to it will know we already answered that question which is when it is published when it is so anyway I said okay I'll let you know um I don't know when it's gonna be because not that I had to explain to him because he knows how things work but I had to explain it to him. Yeah and everybody people hope I mean hopefully everybody pretty much knows you know we're doing this right now it's not like you're listening to it an hour later we we don't you know I was gonna say we edit it which we really just edit it in terms of turning into a like a file to upload. We really we don't do any editing that's why sometimes the show sucks you say we like I have any involvement with that.

SPEAKER_02

I just sit there and you didn't have to well I'm just trying to give you the credit in a roundabout way.

SPEAKER_01

It was yeah I mean okay I'll take it um yeah I do all the editing which again we don't I'll say this we don't ever cut we've never cut any content and we we um we have made some cuts like maybe two episodes we actually did cut a portion small portion out um and one of them was literally like oh I I broke the board where's that other cable and it's just eight minutes would be like opening boxes and like God damn it where's the manual for this damn thing yeah dead silence eight minutes well I wouldn't call it dead silence I'd call it you hear me in the background oh motherfucker I thought I put her here and then you're like playing a game on your phone or whatever. So yeah that's the only thing I'm really cut and that kind of I got way off track there but so yeah you have to you have to edit it to make it into an actual episode and then you have we have to have lead time you know because uh because of editing and uploading like this just takes a little bit of time and you know uh point being like we have a plan here yeah we record them a certain amount of days or weeks in advance and we have at any given time um you know we have we have episodes we always have episodes done yeah and out there well not out there but they're done they're uploaded they're ready to distribute before while we're recording one. Yeah wow it really went off on a tangent there so anyhoot.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah well there's there's one other that we uh that you edited also it's because Rob was too damn energetic for our podcast so we we added you edited him out of it and now he's upset that he hasn't been on it.

Production Realities And No Editing

SPEAKER_01

Oh god I told him it was because the audio dropped out this is awkward now uh hey Rob fast forward through that last part yeah yeah if you just heard that Rob oh wait you can't fast forward after the fact damn it anyway but no back to Rob well actually Robbie and so anyway he's like and I had to explain and once we got a schedule I told him that you know the date and it was a couple weeks out be published and he's like okay let I said it'll be published on this date and he's like okay let me know on I said I just did he's like no on that date let me know I'm like what should I why I said are you subscribed to it yeah I'm like okay it'll it'll be in your Spotify feed or YouTube feed whatever and he's like um hold on pulls up his phone he's like um no the last episode on my feed I'm like it's not published now what I'm saying what I'm saying is it'll pop up you don't need me to tell you he's like okay oh yeah he's like okay I gotcha all right so just let me know I'm like damn it and he should know it's the one with him because it's named three three gay cowboys you wouldn't think it'd be hard to find no especially since he is the one that wanted to call the podcast three gay or two gay cowboys yes yeah I know little shit I know uh although I'll you know what he said we called him out he's like well it kind of makes sense but uh no he yeah he he's directly responsible for that episode being called three gay cowboys uh anyway so it was as we're recording this episode now um at least uh three gay cowboys came out this morning midnight yep and I was awake of course and I sent him a screenshot I drew a circle around three gay cowboys just in case you didn't feel like oh we had to listen to anything but the one with him uh and he never responded and so well he not even not only never responded he didn't even ever look at the message and so I actually talked I talked to his dad today happen happened to talk to him on the phone Rob for about that but we got talking about it and he's like he's like yeah he pretty much forgot about it until this morning he's like oh wait that episode and uh yeah so he's working his way through it uh Rob started it in the car while they're driving to school and Robbie was kind of bored with the first few minutes of it because he wasn't on it so imagine that I know but yeah um excuse me eager wait I don't know how we got there something about eagerly waiting but yeah um thanks to the vodka queen for the the feedback um we will definitely not listen to it yes thank you yeah it has been heard yes and discarded yep although oh heard acknowledged and discarded correct yeah had wait was heard understood heard understood acknowledged and discarded be a marine go ooh yeah uh but yeah I mean all seriousness I appreciate I do appreciate the effort to put the feedback in oh yeah yeah though we completely disagree with it and obviously it's bullshit and we're never we're not gonna do anything to address it yeah it was it was nice yeah yeah somebody to take the time you know what maybe maybe the vodka queen will actually listen to this full episode instead of taking her two or three days I doubt it I do too she's probably sleeping right now I don't know how far in we are in this episode which I want to talk about why in a second um but yeah exactly she's probably asleep um and I no I just wanted to say because we did say we're well set and centered in the wild or set and centered bare back if you will uh no we're not well we'll kick it around um so i uh I think we should probably elaborate a little bit on that because I mean I'm sure I mean I don't know to what extent the wind people can hear the wind or the crickets or whatever but I I think I also think sometimes people don't understand how things work and so when we say we're outside we are without many of the things that we usually have when we record. Right. We only have microphones right now. Yep we don't have a board uh which is why I mentioned I don't know how far in we are because I don't I don't have a board with a clock that's telling me that uh we don't have uh good well we don't have studio mics no we're using um these DJ DJI mics the company that makes its drones these little mini lapel god as I said lapel mic I don't want to get in the weeds on that again but no these lapel mics which they're very good we've tested them before we've never used them for an actual episode but so they're very good but we don't have our studio mics. Right uh we all and then we don't have um headphones. Oh that's true I'm or well cans as they call them in the business. We don't have our cans. Uh you just gonna leave that I'm trying to uh yeah I'm just gonna leave it. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Kind of disappointed on okay but you know they call them cans right no uh uh really no I thought when when we say we're done with an episode we put it in the can I don't know that they called headphones cans.

SPEAKER_01

Oh jeez that's no that's a different can. Well that's just the the can. I'm talking about cans. Uh-uh you know because they were like big and bulk they go over your ears like a set of cans.

SPEAKER_02

You never heard that no I'm sure you've heard of the sh the term set of cans before well yeah but it was in a different setting yes this this goes right along with the toque or whatever the hell it was it no not whatever it was the a toque um no no no uh no you're talking about the can which is when we have episodes done and and ready to go that they're in the can.

SPEAKER_01

Right uh but no headphones cans we we don't have them and people are probably like okay does that really matter it does because since we've been doing this not for very long um you need to be able to hear how you sell it yourself sound how the other pu person sounds um and right now we have no idea how this sounds no clue it could be fucking terrible you could just probably only hear the crickets not us. Which that would work out great for the vodka queen. Yeah crickets are I'm sure very seasonable crickets and wind put you to sleep. Yes yes but um and the reason I bring that up is to say that um as we're recording an episode we typically in real time have a feel for how it's sounding and how the levels are right now we don't so if we do more uh bareback episodes then I'm just gonna I'm not gonna say I'm going with it just kind of stuck in my well Jesus Christ reminds me when you gave me that telescope and like I was it can't you gave it to me in the like the shipping box right? Oh the tripod yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah tripod thank you and I was like flipping around looking at I'm like huh where'd this come from and you're like you said it didn't come from Mexico and I was like oh I haven't had that in a while you're like what it's like come from Mexico take that how you want it take that how you want it um so what I'm saying is that whereas we typically know in in real time roughly how it's sounding or at least if it's not sounding right uh we don't know so um you we'd appreciate all your feedback on the bearback um and whether this is a well lubed episode or if it's getting kind of stuck um or you're hearing some weird sort of squish grinding noises whatever squeak noises in the background and all the things that can go wrong with a bearback. I would not know okay you have you have kids so I mean it's there oh yeah so uh and and then you know if it's if the audio's good and stuff uh maybe we'll do more of them. Well yeah it I like being outside better.

SPEAKER_02

That's it's different. Yeah it's weird. Especially considering it's probably probably about one o'clock in the morning and we're on our time uh what's different about that? Huh? Oh because it's later than we usually do it. Yeah well no that we don't get moving until the early afternoon.

Recording Outside Without Headphones

SPEAKER_01

True yeah I know that um well and and and it's different too in that uh when we record um we plan to record right and we sit down and we do it in the studio. Um and this uh we had planned to to record an episode in the wild but we didn't plan to do it tonight and so it's very impromptu. Yeah well the clouds rolled in so we had to do something. Yeah which they're still they're getting you know I'm actually a little pissed if I'm honest because they've been rolling in and out and intermittently and because we decided to record a podcast episode uh we've missed out on some good windows in the clouds. Yeah which I'll tell you what that's work ethic buddy we're sitting here working right now we didn't just be like oh we want we can play with our telescopes now we're committed to our listeners who are asleep right now. Yeah to do a quality show Wake Up well the neighbor probably just did sorry neighbor oh my god I'm killing right though I know I know it's you're that guy in a heart attack you should just get a little coat yeah you get that reference what'd you say you say you should just get a little coat oh yeah you get that reference nope not yet Tommy boy oh Tommy boy yeah fat guy fat guy little coat oh god you know that's another thing that um he's dead too I know he is yeah I know that that's not what I was gonna say I was just gonna say that uh you know sometimes we kind of get distracted with stuff in the studio um but we never don't hear each other because we've got the cans. Right. Yeah and by we being distracted I mean you sometimes but out here yeah um you look you maybe couldn't hear me at certain points. Uh what is my point on it? I don't know. I have no idea. Yeah I don't either but yeah there you go Tommy boy's dead um probably for a while cocaine probably probably and donuts oh god donuts I could go for a donut right now um actually I could go for a pizza well how about neither one because we're out of time okay we're out of time god this must have been a real fucking drag on you because this is the first episode we've ever done where you're like oh my god really we're done this time you're like oh thank god no you you said one time is that what you're gonna say we're done really oh my god no I didn't I didn't call you out on that did I no okay oh no here's what I called you you know fucking forget it talk to y'all later have a good one we'll talk at you soon you fucked up your ending we gotta do it again okay when we and I don't edit I'm not gonna fucking go back okay so we got okay so we gotta be like oh yeah you just like just like like the end of the show snuck up on us right yeah it's like oh and by the way we gotta tell the listeners about the oh well we're out of time mark uh already I know can you it's just it it just goes by doesn't it it does just fun and fun and fun well yep uh catch y'all later have a good one hey it's Mark here at Set and Center uh just want to let everybody know that if they want to catch us on the socials you can catch us at our webpage setcenter.live or on Facebook at SetCenterLive uh we'll maybe post some little stupid videos that we've done stuff like that that's where we keep on going and also we talk a lot about the animals here on the ranch and we'll post pictures of them we'll see how it goes and let us know how we go to the chair

SPEAKER_00

Broke it's us But you can count on that Break time yell it all unwind Thousand dogs judging with that thousand yard mind Project list is long but we'll get there soon That's a lie, but it's a good tone We said it's in a kind of sorta maybe Held together by stubborn and a little crazy You're still listening to one of the pack now back to the chaos here we go
